After 50 years, the renowned Basel-based music label is re-estating itself and looking stronger into the future. The label has been taken over by the musician Marco von Orelli and Melanie Imhof who are part of the current Board of Directors completed by Werner X. Uehlinger, the Swiss saxophone pioneer Co Streiff and long-time friend and companion of the label, Christian C. Dalucas. The history of the music label Hat Hut continues.
Just shortly after the 50th anniversary of the renowned Basel music label Hat Hut Rec. the future of the label could be secured. In 1975, Werner X. Uehlinger founded the label Hat Hut Records, after he met his pen pal, the saxophonist and trumpeter Joe McPhee on a business trip to America. The accompanying three-part record cover was lovingly and elaborately designed by the artist Klaus Baumgärtner and the hat has played a central role ever since: Hat Hut was born.
From this spontaneous impulse, an internationally recognized label developed. Over time, the small vinyl editions were replaced by a number of series of tasteful and ecologically sustainable CD releases.Right from the start, the label showed a great interest in graphic design and cover design with high recognition value. The respective music was supplemented with accompanying texts on the packaging, which represented a kind of philosophical extension to the actual music listening. Each new release is equivalent to an individual work of art.
"Impressed by the innovative broadcast of the catalog coupled with the great merits of WXU for the avant-garde scene since 1975, I was also quite quickly fascinated by the clear, almost strict visual language of the cover art. Each piece is a collector's item. It should stay that way," Marco von Orelli describes the series of the label. Apart from that: "The music market is changing a lot, the needs of how music is consumed are an exciting challenge," von Orelli continues.
The new owners, Marco von Orelli and Melanie Imhof, both on the Board of Directors is completed by the long-time friend and companion of the label, Christian C. Dalucas, the Swiss saxophone pioneer Co Streiff and Werner X. Uehlinger. The idea is to keep the label in its core and orientation, but to make it fit for the future.
