These albums, Joe Henderson's second and third as a leader, represent the contrasting, but not completely conflicting, tensions generated by simultaneous conservative and adventurous impulses. The title Our Thing implies a connection with jazz’s “New Thing,” In ’N Out is a sly reference to the ability to maneuver both “inside” and "outside" of the changes. (Art Lange)
